By The Light

Ok kiddos, here’s the 6th and final blahwg/video/song post for the new EP. Album Release Show May 12th is less than 2 weeks away, so best get to work on memorizing the words and prepping your dance moves.

“By The Light” is by far the mushiest love song I’ve ever written:

By The Light

By the light of the ATM booth

I look at my wallet picture of you

and remember the day I took it

how we stayed in bed till late afternoon

Honey to tell you the truth

I never loved nobody the way I love you

By the light of the ATM booth

I shiver and wait for the rain to conclude

It took a lot of guts to talk to you

but I’d hate myself if I didn’t follow through

as you brushed the snow off your car roof

I asked and you smiled and right then I knew

you’re like sight in the night

cast shade on the day

the blind could read by your light

the sun should be ashamed

‘cause it’s half as bright as you

By the time I took that picture of you

something tied us together we couldn’t undo

but you’d already made your next move

bought a ticket to somewhere I couldn’t follow you

The night before you had to leave

I lay awake just watching you sleep

it was a picture that I tried to keep

an image erased when first light crossed your cheek

you’re like sight in the night

cast shade on the day

the blind could read by your light

the sun should be ashamed

‘cause it’s half as bright as you

So we tried to make like they weren’t real

the things that we said and the way that we feel

but the feelings wouldn’t leave me be

even in my darkness they forced me to see

you’re my sight in the night

my shade in the day

the blind could read by your light

the sun should be ashamed

‘cause it’s half as bright as you

By the light of the ATM screen

I look at the money it just gave to me

It’s all I’ve got it’s all I need

for a ticket to you ‘cross the land and the sea

It’s also the first Heaves song where a dude who’s really just a rhythm guitarist has the unprecedented audacity to take TWO guitar solos, and for each one, I panned four different solos. I encourage you to surf the sound wave of a different solo each time you listen. You like guitars? This song’s got eleven of ‘em. Some simply strum, some swell and dissolve, some chime, some shape shift.

… including the first appearance of the All American 70’s Epiphone on a Heaves song (but certainly not the last).

Like the gorgeous vocals of Emily Brewster? This song has a choir of eight yearning Emilies on it, each Emily swimming in her own seasky of reverb. Why don’t you duck inside the light and wait a few minutes for the rain to conclude.
